It is Finished
Passage: John 19:17-42
I am thankful for Good Friday, for it's an important reminder to stop and reflect on the death of Jesus and the impact his substitutionary death has on our life. If we are not careful, the rest of the year we can become desensitized to the reality of the cross and miss the cataclysmic importance of it. This Sunday we look at the culmination of Jesus' work on earth where Jesus stood in our place and died the death we deserved to purchase the freedom we did not deserve. The apostle Paul says it succinctly. "For our sake he (God) made him (Jesus) to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him (Jesus) we might become the righteousness of God" (2 Cor 5:21). We will study a very moving passage from John 19:17-42 and learn the importance of his words from the cross, "It is Finished."
